About Care4Calais
Care4Calais is a volunteer run charity operating in the UK, delivering essential aid to asylum seekers whilst they are waiting for their asylum claims to be processed. Asylum seekers are often housed in hotels or dispersal accommodation for significant periods of time where they receive little support. Currently we are supporting a hotel in East Herts and dispersal accommodation that consists mostly of families. They are often struggling with trauma, isolation and loneliness. They receive little financial aid from the Home Office, and often only have the clothes they arrived to the hotels in. We therefore collect donations from the public and distribute them to the families, as well as providing a friendly face and someone to talk to. Many don't understand the language or the area, so our volunteers visit them to offer practical support such as showing them local landmarks, or run activities that improves their well-being.
