Celebrating Garden House Hospice: A Beacon of Compassion in Hertfordshire

As part of GoVolHerts International Volunteers Day campaign, we were honoured to feature Garden House Hospice, a cherished institution providing exceptional palliative care to individuals and their families in Hertfordshire. Highlighting the power of volunteering, the campaign shared the moving story of Louise, one of the hospice's dedicated volunteers. Louise’s journey into volunteering was deeply personal and heartfelt. Reflecting on her experience, she shared:

"My Mum was taken ill a few years ago, and we were lucky enough for her to receive hospice care in Leicestershire. I was amazed at the support and care she received. I promised myself that when I returned home, I would give back to my local community through the hospice."

True to her word, Louise joined Garden House Hospice, where she formed a meaningful bond with a socially isolated community member.

"When I first started volunteering, I was matched with a beautiful community member who counted down the days until our visits. We built a beautiful friendship, and it felt amazing to give back. I got so much out of it myself."

Louise’s story exemplifies the profound impact of volunteering, not only on those receiving support but also on the volunteers themselves.

Garden House Hospice continues to be a vital pillar in Hertfordshire, supported by the kindness of volunteers like Louise. Their work inspires us all to make a difference, one small act of kindness at a time.
