Detailed description

Role overview:  

Do you love storytelling? Can you help people to share their experiences? We’re looking for a great communicator with a flair for the written word to help us develop our case studies. We’re hoping to capture the experiences of our beneficiaries and their family members, our fundraisers, partners and people, so we can better demonstrate the impact our work has and strengthen the messages we share about our services.  

 

Location: You can be home based from anywhere in the UK, or can work from our friendly office in Welwyn Garden City, Hertfordshire.  

 

Role Purpose 

To help us build a powerful picture of our impact, by collating case studies, stories and outcomes from beneficiaries, fundraisers, partners, staff and volunteers. 

 

Main duties and responsibilities 

  • Contact beneficiaries, companions/ friends/ family, fundraisers, partners, staff and volunteers who have expressed an interest in sharing their story to arrange a suitable time and method 
  • Interviewing clients over the phone, video call or email to build a picture of how our advice has made a difference to them 
  • Working with our Comms & Marketing team to identify and share stories 
  • Using our database to find potential interviewees 
  • Recording case studies, stories and outcomes on our database for use on a number of different channels (funding reports, website, social media, press releases, newsletter etc) 
  • Ensuring confidentiality is maintained and permissions are collected and recorded in accordance with GDPR regulations 


Skills and qualities 

To be successful in this role, you will need: 

 

  • The ability to conduct interviews with empathy and sensitivity  
  • A flair for storytelling with accurate spelling and grammar  
  • A creative approach to communication  
  • An interest in, and understanding of the work of Willow  
  • A willingness to learn how to use our database system and other technology 
  • The ability to work on your own initiative but work as part of a team  

 

What can you expect from us? 

You will be a part of a small team, who are on hand to support you with your role and offer any training and support where required. You will be provided with all necessary resources available and given a full induction. We will keep you informed and updated on how your support benefits the team, Willow and Special Days.

Willow is the only national charity working with seriously ill young adults aged 16 to 40 to fulfil uplifting and unforgettable Special Days.

Since 1999 Willow has fulfilled more than 21,500 Special Days for young adults living with life-threatening conditions such as cancer, motor neurone disease, cystic fibrosis, muscular dystrophy and Huntington’s disease.
