Summary

You’ll greet and welcome our visitors, answer any questions they may have or make a note of enquiries, and show them around the displays and galleries.

Detailed description

Our museum stewards are the public face of the museum and ensure that our visitors have a good experience during their visit. You'll always work in a team of two and will be responsible for opening and setting up the museum at the start of the day and closing at the end. You will greet and welcome our visitors as they arrive, answer any questions they may have or take a note of any enquiries to pass on to the appropriate staff member. You will be able to direct visitors to any displays or galleries that they are particularly interested in. If an emergency arises you will be able to raise the alarm and take any necessary action.

Our opening days are Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays and are divided into two shifts of 2.5 hours; the morning session is from 11.00 to 13.30 and the afternoon from 13.30 to 16.00. We are also open on Sunday afternoons from 14.00 - 16.00. We ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 2 shifts per month.

This role suits someone who enjoys engaging with people, has a friendly manner and a keen interest in local history.

Getting there

Ware Museum is located on the High Street, at the entrance to Ware Priory and opposite St. Mary's Church. Parking for volunteers working in the museum is available in the Priory Car Park behind the museum.

About Ware Museum CIO

Ware Museum tells the story of life in Ware from the earliest times to the present day. Visitors can discover the history and heritage of this remarkable town in five galleries displaying archaeological finds, Roman remains, medieval treasures and more. There are hands-on activities for families and a changing programme of exhibitions and events. Our volunteer stewards play a key role in welcoming visitors and enhancing their visit to the museum.
