Role Description: Volunteer CNS Hub Assistant – Complex Needs Service


Responsible to: Volunteer Coordinator


Time Commitment: up to 18 hours per working week (can be flexible with hours) 


Location: Outreach CNS Hubs County Wide in Hertfordshire


Who we are:

Turning Point is a leading health and social care organisation. We provide services for people with complex needs, including those affected by drug and alcohol misuse, mental health problems and those with a learning disability. The Complex Needs Service, provided by Turning Point, offers community support to people recovering from mental health issues and additional complex needs, including substance misuse, housing issues and learning disabilities. We also provide practical support to promote personal independence and recovery.


Purpose of role:

We are looking for enthusiastic volunteer with great administration skills and knowledge of mental health and substance misuse to support our dual diagnosis lead.


Main tasks:

·       To process CNS hub referrals and access our databases (full training provided)

·       To be a point of contact for the CNS hub by telephone/ email and face to face contact

·       To write case notes for each client and any other admin duties

·       To make follow up calls regarding CNS hub clients

·       To process mail, compile statistics and write letters 


What we are looking for:

·       Knowledge of supporting mental health, substance misuse and challenging behaviour

·       Knowledge of MS Office, particular experience with Word, Outlook and Excel

·       Experience of carrying out administrative tasks, office experience preferred

·       Good interpersonal skills including a welcoming telephone manner

·       Good Communication and organisation skills

·       Ability to demonstrate a positive non-judgemental attitude to service users

·       Volunteers must be aged 18 or over

·       Ability to access our CNS hubs county wide

·       The opportunity to gain experience with a highly qualified and committed team, at a leading mental health organisation, in a friendly and supportive office environment

·       All volunteers will receive training in mental health awareness, plus access to ongoing training with Turning Point

·       As an Admin Assistant Volunteer you will receive full role specific training

·       Regular supervision with the Triage and Volunteer Coordinator

·       Access to listings of paid-work opportunities within the Complex Needs Service when they arise

·       The Complex Needs service are able to provide references for future work/volunteer opportunities

·       Travel expenses will be reimbursed (45p per mile for first 10,000 miles, 25p beyond 10,000 miles)
