Summary

We are looking for volunteers to help us support our members in a variety of activities, sport, walks, art and craft, cooking, trips out

Detailed description

Our adult members all have a learning disability and may be on the Autism spectrum. We arrange and support a wide variety of activities for our members to enjoy. This can include walks and sports which helps physical wellbeing. Art and crafts for creativity. Food and cooking for life skills and day trips and theatre trips just for fun. We are open to new adventures.

Our prime aim is to reduce social isolation and to create an environment where people can come together with old friends and make new ones.

Most activities are two hours or less and involve supporting our members in the activity. They have a wide variety of needs, some are very capable and others less so. This may be helping with cooking skills, teaching sewing or knitting skills. It can be enjoying an informal kick about in the local park or having a natter while we take a walk together, usually ending in a cafe.

We help our members enjoy an improved quality of life but also provide a little respite for parents and support staff.

About Supported Activities Programme

Supported Activities Programme is an independent charity for adults (over the age of 18) with learning disabilities who live in the North Hertfordshire or Stevenage area. The aim is to promote different sport and leisure activities to enable vulnerable members, many of whom are socially isolated, to participate in activities they may not otherwise have access to.
The programme of events gives members the opportunity to have fun, make new friends and build their self-esteem in a safe environment with volunteer support while parents and carers are able to benefit from a period of respite.
