Summary

Our Strength & Balance classes are designed as a mixture of standing and seated exercises. Through this we aim to prevent falls in older adults.

Detailed description

Your role as the volunteer would be to support the instructor with the oversubscribed numbers at the class as well as providing 30minutes of your time to allow participants social time. (Falls Prevention service).

This would be by:

  • Supporting participants with resistance bands if they are having difficulty placing the band where instructed.
  • Helping with paperwork – new participants are required to fill in a participations form so that we can obtain medical information and emergency contact details. Therefore, if there are any participants who need that extra support filling the form out, you may be required to fill this out on their behalf with them. Other paperwork, will be to ensure everyone is writing their names on the register as they enter the hall.
  • Helping the instructor put the chairs our at the start of the class.
  • More importantly, if any falls were to happen within the class, you may be asked to support the instructor by calling the participants next of kin or an ambulance in the worst case scenario whilst the instructor performs any necessary first aid.
  • The social time will consist of making drinks for people and providing them with health snacks, and facilitating a social gathering after the class for around 30 minutes.

IMPORTANT about falls:

We are NOT allowed to pick a participant up off of the floor should they encounter a fall. The participant will need to either get themselves up off of the floor, or we will call the next of kin who can lift them otherwise we need to call for an ambulance to lift them, we are not allowed to do this as we could cause further harm.

First aid qualification is desired. We can send across a link to a free course if necessary.

This session takes place every Thursday 11:30am - 12:30pm but with the added social time this will be until 1pm.

There is plenty of FREE parking opposite the venue. Please contact me for exact location.
