Summary

Volunteer with Herts Welcomes Refugees and the Refugee Council in delivering their local Community Hubs for local refugees.

Detailed description

Volunteers will have the opportunity to work with the Refugee Council in delivering their local Community Hubs. The Community Hubs will often consist of ESOL lessons and drop-in services run by Refugee Council staff and their partner organisations, which need assistance in their delivery. 


Specifically, the volunteer role may include:

 

  • Accompanying refugees to and from the Community Hubs if they struggle with directions.
  • Assisting tutor with delivery of ESOL classes by taking part in informal conversation practise.
  • Assisting with activities for the children attending with their parents.

Herts Welcomes Refugees will arrange for volunteers to undertake an enhanced DBS check as part of the enrolment process. Ongoing support and training is given to volunteers by Herts Welcomes Refugees. This is a great opportunity to have a positive impact on people living in the local community.

About Herts Welcomes Refugees

Herts Welcomes Refugees provides a range of assistance and support to refugees and asylum seekers across the county to complement that provided by local councils and the Refugee Council's Hertfordshire Resettlement Project. We also help some refugees and asylum seekers who are not supported by either the Refugee Council or local councils.
