About Gorsefield: Gorsefield Rural Studies and Outdoor Activity Centre is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to offering residential and day visits to children from east London, some of the most underprivileged parts of the country. Our mission is to provide these children with enriching and memorable experiences in a nurturing and educational environment.

Volunteer Role: Grounds and Site Maintenance & Gardening

Impact: By volunteering at Gorsefield, you will directly contribute to creating a safe, beautiful, and engaging environment for children. Your work will help us maintain our grounds and gardens, which are essential for the educational and recreational activities we offer. This, in turn, supports our mission to provide the very best experiences for children who greatly benefit from their time at our centre.

Mission: Our mission is to foster personal growth, learning, and well-being among children from disadvantaged backgrounds. By maintaining our vegetable, ornamental, and wildlife gardens, volunteers help us create a setting that inspires curiosity, learning, and a love for nature.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Gardening: Planting, weeding, pruning, and watering plants in our vegetable, ornamental, and wildlife gardens.
  • Site Maintenance: General upkeep of the grounds, including mowing lawns, clearing paths, and ensuring the overall cleanliness and safety of the site.
  • Wildlife Support: Assisting in creating and maintaining habitats for local wildlife, such as bird feeders and insect hotels.
  • Facility Support: Helping with minor repairs and maintenance tasks around the site.
  • Team Collaboration: Working alongside staff and other volunteers to achieve the centre’s goals and maintain a positive atmosphere.

Requirements:

  • Enthusiasm for gardening and working outdoors.
  • A commitment to supporting children from disadvantaged backgrounds.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks and work in various weather conditions.
  • Team player with good communication skills.
  • Willingness to learn and follow guidelines.
