About Citizens Advice Welwyn Hatfield (CAWH)

We provide free, independent, confidential and impartial advice to everyone living, working and studying in Welwyn Hatfield and improve the policies and practices that affect their lives. We value diversity, promote equality and challenge discrimination.

Citizens Advice Welwyn Hatfield is an independent charity governed by its own board of trustees. We're supported by a range of funders, staff and trained volunteers, without whom we wouldn't be able to offer the quality service that we do today.

We are currently looking for a Receptionist Volunteer to join our team on Thursdays 9.30am until 2.30pm.


What will you be doing?

Receptionists are the public face of Citizens Advice Welwyn Hatfield and play a key role in determining our clients’ experience of their contact with us.


As a Receptionist, you will:


·        Welcome all clients and other visitors to Citizens Advice Welwyn Hatfield.

·        Oversee the smooth running of the reception area.

·        Inform clients about the different ways they can receive advice through our various channels and offer information about our services. 

·        Set up new clients, record client information and liaise with a supervisor to book appointments.

·        Give out necessary forms for clients to fill in, assisting to complete these where necessary.

·        Gain experience within an administrative role.

·        Get to work with a variety of clients and situations.

·        Work within a fun and diverse office.

·        Develop and learn new skills, which will support you towards future opportunities.

·        Assist with the day to day running of the Citizens Advice service.

What you will bring to the role?


You don’t need specific qualifications or skills but you’ll need to:

 

·        Be friendly and approachable

·        Be non-judgmental and respect views, values and cultures that are different to your own

·        Have good IT skills

·        Strong communication skills and have a good level of spoken and written English

·        Have the ability to maintain confidentiality and appropriate professional boundaries

·        Be calm under pressure

·        Be willing to learn about and follow the Citizens Advice aims, principles and policies, including confidentiality and data protection

·        Be willing to undertake training in your role

 

What is the time commitment?

Ideally, we ask for a commitment of 5-8 hours per week, with the current vacancy scheduled for Thursdays from 9:30 am to 2:30pm. However, we are flexible regarding the total hours and frequency of your volunteer involvement.
