Detailed description

Duties of a Community Champion:

In addition to the general duties of a trustee, the community champion has particular responsibilities to advocate for the voluntary, community, faith and social enterprises across CDA Herts’ overarching themes. 

 

CDA Herts’ activities and projects are delivered in partnership with the voluntary and statutory sectors to support people and groups whose voices have not been heard which has led to health and wellbeing and social inequalities. 

 

We exist to support and work in partnership across our overarching themes of

community development; health and wellbeing; rural life and environment;

social justice and support services. 


Duties as a Trustee:

  • Ensure that CDA Herts complies with its governing document, charity law, company law and any other relevant legislation or regulations
  • Ensure that CDA Herts pursues its objects as defined in its governing document
  • Ensure that CDA Herts applies its resources exclusively in pursuance of its objects and does not spend money on activities which are not included in the objects, however worthwhile they may be
  • Contribute actively to the board of trustees by giving firm strategic direction to CDA Herts, setting overall policy, defining goals, setting targets and evaluating performance against agreed targets
  • Safeguard the good name and values of CDA Herts
  • Act as an Ambassador for CDA Herts


Specific responsibilities of the community champion:

  • Bringing to the attention of the board on the health and social determinants and inequalities facing the people and communities living and working across the county
  • Ensuring that the senior team are aware of the gaps in service provision delivered by both the public and voluntary organisations
  • Bringing to life, experiences, knowledge and skills through association with the diverse people and groups
  • Working with the project teams to share own knowledge to deliver better services
  • Sharing CDA Herts’ messages and information
  • Making a positive impact on the lives of other people
  • Improving the health & wellbeing of their communities
  • Feeding back their community’s concerns
  • Promoting CDA Herts’ projects and support the other board champions
  • Sitting on panels as and when requested by the chair of the board


Minimum time commitment:

  • Attend board meetings held bi-monthly (as the board is small there are no additional sub-committees)
  • Meetings are hybrid but there is preference to hold actual meetings
  • Board meetings are held in the day time but the timings may change due to the consensus of the members
  • Liaise with the CEO and Project Leads to deliver cohesive services
  • This is a voluntary role and expenses will be reimbursed


Person Specification:

  • A recognised qualification and relevant community engagement and development
  • Understanding the issues/concerns facing the charitable sector
  • Experience of working with charities and community groups
  • Commit to the vision and mission of CDA Herts
  • A willingness to meet the minimum time requirement
  • Adherence to the Nolan Principles of public life: selflessness; integrity; objectivity; accountability; openness; honesty; leadership
  • Strategic vision and creative thinking
  • An understanding and acceptance of the legal duties, responsibilities and liabilities of trusteeship
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team and to take decisions for the good of CDA Herts
