Summary
Abbots Friends are looking for people to join a team of volunteers offering social connection and companionship to isolated and lonely people.Detailed description
At Abbots Friends, we’re on a mission. Our goal? To tackle loneliness and isolation, and improve the health, confidence and wellbeing of vulnerable people in our community.
And we need your help!
We’re looking for people to join our network of dedicated volunteers offering social connection and companionship to isolated and lonely people in Hertfordshire.
Whether it’s swapping stories over tea and cake, spending time in the garden or supporting one of our well-loved community tea parties, you’ll be making a genuine difference to someone’s life.
What to expect as an Abbots Friends Companion Volunteer
As an Abbots Friends Companion Volunteer, you’ll be paired with someone based on common interest and hobbies, so you’ll have plenty to talk about when you visit them at their home.
How we'll support you
We want to ensure that our dedicated network of volunteers feel happy and fully supported in their role and offer:
- Ongoing support as you volunteer
- A simple induction process
- A volunteer handbook, filled with useful tips
- Free volunteer DBS check (Criminal Record Check)
- Coverage of any travel expenses
Who can volunteer with Abbots Friends?
You don’t need any formal qualifications, or even previous experience to become an Abbots Friends Companion Volunteer – just a strong sense of compassion and a willingness to support those who need it.
Note: In order to become a volunteer with Abbots Friends you must be over 18 and be willing to have a Volunteer’s DBS check (Criminal Records Check).
How much time do I need to offer?
Our volunteer roles are flexible! Which means you’re free to offer as much time as you’d like. Whether it’s thirty minutes per week or several hours per month, any time you’re able to offer will make an enormous difference.
